Dr. Karyn Melligan serves as an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the graduate Emergency Management program at Brevard University. With over 20 years of professional experience, she began her career as a wildland firefighter with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, later transitioning to Emergency Management consulting focusing on federal grant acquisition and emergency plan evaluation. She holds multiple master's degrees and a Ph.D. in Public Safety Leadership.

Her research interests span disaster resilience, infrastructure security, terrorism studies, and public safety leadership. She contributes to the field through her role as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Disaster Resilience and Emergency Management and as a subject matter expert for the Homeland Defense & Security Information Analysis Center.

Dr. Melligan actively engages with professional networks including the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). She is pursuing the Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification from IAEM and has completed advanced coursework in law, cybersecurity, and university teaching.
Outside academia, she volunteers with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team and enjoys historic home renovation, travel, and family time.
