Karthik Subramanian Krishnan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Division of Neuroscience (Eccles Institute of Neuroscience) within the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University. His research focuses on elucidating the role of TRP Ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channels in epilepsy pathogenesis and neuronal calcium dysregulation.
Education:
- B.Pharm
- MNeuro (Advanced)
Research Interests: Dr. Krishnan investigates epilepsy mechanisms with emphasis on TRPA1-mediated calcium influx in cortical neurons. His work addresses the critical gap in understanding why conventional calcium channel inhibitors fail in epilepsy treatment, exploring TRP channels as novel therapeutic targets. Research spans neurological disorder pathophysiology, ion channel signaling, neuropharmacology, and translational neuroscience, with direct implications for developing targeted epilepsy therapies.
Laboratory Affiliation: Member of The Kheradpezhouh Group - Calcium Signalling at the Eccles Institute of Neuroscience, where he utilizes spectral flow cytometry and neuronal activity modeling to study seizure mechanisms.
