Karolina Barglowski is an Associate Professor of Sociology, Social Interventions, and Social Politics at the University of Luxembourg, based in the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. She is affiliated with the Department of Education and Social Work and holds an office at Maison Sciences Humaines, Esch-sur-Alzette. Her research focuses on transnational social protection, migrant family dynamics, and social inequality in migration contexts.
Her expertise includes analyzing migrant organizations' roles in social risk management, transnational class formation, and gendered aspects of social protection. She has led collaborative projects such as the study on transnational parenting among Polish migrants in Germany and co-edited special issues on migration's impact on family life and transnational inequality mechanisms.
Her work emphasizes methodological approaches combining transnational and intersectional perspectives, addressing challenges like sampling strategies in migration research and ethical reflexivity in qualitative fieldwork. She collaborates with NGOs and international institutions, contributing to policy-oriented analyses of migrant welfare systems.
Barglowski has held prior academic positions at TU Dortmund University, Bielefeld University, and the Max-Planck Institute for the Study of Ethnic and Religious Diversity. She currently co-leads two large research projects exploring transnational social positioning and pandemic impacts on transnational care systems.
