Karol Szymanowski

Karol Szymanowski is a distinguished associate professor at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Poland, renowned internationally as a jazz vibraphonist, composer, and arranger with an active concert career spanning jazz, blues, and ethnic music collaborations.

His academic foundation includes diplomas from the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (Instrumental Department) and the Academy of Music in Katowice (Jazz and Popular Music Department), where he graduated with distinction.

Szymanowski's pioneering research centers on vibraphone innovation, notably developing the six-mallet technique and Bass Vibe instrument in collaboration with Bergerault. His work bridges jazz performance, composition, and ethnic music integration, with particular focus on expanding harmonic possibilities and adapting Polish folk traditions for percussion.

His publications from 2007-2018 reveal systematic exploration of vibraphone methodology, chord structures in jazz contexts, and culturally rooted solo repertoire. These works demonstrate consistent innovation in transforming the vibraphone from a melodic to a fully harmonic instrument while preserving cultural authenticity.
