Karol Maybury

Karol Maybury is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF). She leads the Social Psychology Research Laboratory, focusing on gender and emotion, human/machine interaction, perceptions of text messages/emojis, and personality psychology. Her lab currently conducts an international study on feline and owner personality traits and attachment. Dr. Maybury has presented research at conferences including the American Psychological Association and the New England Psychological Association.

Education: PhD and MA in Psychology from the University of California, Davis (1997, 1994), and a BA from Regis College (1989).

Research emphasizes interdisciplinary topics such as human-animal dynamics and social behavior analysis. Recent work includes a peer-reviewed article on gender and emotion in sports contexts. She actively mentors undergraduate students through collaborative research projects.
