Karl P. Mueller is a Senior Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation and a Professor at the RAND School of Public Policy. His expertise spans military strategy, nuclear deterrence, air warfare, and wargaming, with a focus on coercion, deterrence, and escalation dynamics. He holds a Ph.D. in politics from Princeton University and a B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago.
Before joining RAND, Mueller was a professor of comparative military studies at the U.S. Air Force's School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS). His research explores strategic implications of AI, future nuclear deterrence, and defense strategies for small states. Notable publications include analyses of the Ukraine invasion, AI's role in warfare, and historical case studies on escalation management.
His current projects include examining AI-driven conflict scenarios, NATO's resilience, and wargaming techniques to predict future conflicts in Europe and Asia.
