Karine van der Beek

Karine van der Beek serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and is a Network Member of the Inequality: Measurement, Interpretation, and Policy (MIP) initiative.

Her research centers on Economic History, Long-Run Economic Growth, and Institutional Economics, with a focus on historical economic structures. She examines 18th-century phenomena such as demand for craftsmanship in England through apprenticeship records (1710–1770) and market-driven human capital formation in London.

As part of the MIP network, her work intersects with policy-oriented inequality research, leveraging historical datasets to analyze institutional evolution and economic development trajectories over extended periods.
