Karine Chemla

Professor Karine Chemla is a Senior Researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), affiliated with the laboratory SPHERE (CNRS & University de Paris). Her research focuses on the history of mathematics in ancient/medieval China and 18th-19th century Europe, examining relationships between mathematics and scholarly cultures through a historical anthropology lens. Key works include a critical edition of the Chinese mathematical text Les Neuf Chapitres (2004) and the co-edited volume Cultures Without Culturalism (2017). She holds prestigious awards such as the Otto Neugebauer Prize (2020) and is a Fellow of the American Philosophical Society.
