Karina Liechti is a Senior Research Scientist at the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of the University of Bern. Her work focuses on governance of natural resources, commons, traditional irrigation systems, and mountain agriculture, with field experience in the Swiss Alps, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, and Mongolia. She is multilingual in German, English, French, Italian, and Russian.
Research Focus: Liechti examines societal transformation processes linked to land use, protected areas, and climate adaptation. Her recent publications analyze forest fire risk communication, traditional irrigation as cultural heritage, and future Swiss landscapes under +4°C warming scenarios.
Network Affiliations: She collaborates with organizations like the International Centre for Traditional Irrigation in Europe (IZTB), Swiss Landscape Protection Foundation, and Forum Landscape, Alps, Parks (FoLAP).
