معرفی
Karina Bunting is a Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Sciences with an extensive research portfolio focused on atrial fibrillation and cardiovascular therapeutics. Her work spans clinical trials, guideline development, and healthcare professional education, with significant contributions to understanding optimal treatment approaches for patients with atrial fibrillation and comorbid conditions.
Dr. Bunting's research interests center on atrial fibrillation management, particularly rate control strategies using beta-blockers versus digoxin. Her work examines cardiac function outcomes, cost-effectiveness analyses, and implementation of evidence-based practices in real-world healthcare settings. She has made substantial contributions to understanding the role of digoxin in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction, as well as investigating novel applications of digoxin as a potential senolytic agent.
Her publication record demonstrates a clear trajectory toward improving clinical practice through rigorous clinical trials and guideline development. The RATE-AF and STEEER-AF trials represent major contributions to the field, focusing on practical approaches to managing atrial fibrillation in diverse patient populations. Her work on the 2024 ESC Guidelines positions her as a key contributor to international standards of care.
Dr. Bunting serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on multiple significant research projects funded by major organizations including the British Heart Foundation, HEART RESEARCH UK, NHS England, and the British Geriatrics Society. Current projects include investigating heart rate control in NHS patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure, examining exercise interventions after spinal cord injury, improving heart function assessment in atrial fibrillation patients, and developing structured education programs for healthcare professionals.
