Karin Berkemann

Karin Berkemann is a Professor in the Department of Architecture, Facility Management, and Geoinformation at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, specializing in architectural history and monument preservation. She also holds a Privatdozentin position at TU Dortmund and has taught at the University of Greifswald since 2014.

Her research focuses on postwar church architecture, modern architectural heritage, Jewish literature and culture, and heritage conservation. She contributed to the recent open-access Zeitschrift für Pastoraltheologie issue on concrete architecture, linking it to ecclesiastical construction.

Scientific awards include the Deutschen Preis für Denkmalschutz (Internetpreis) (2018) and the BDA-Preis für Architekturkritik (Besondere Auszeichnung) (2024). Berkemann led projects like the itinerant exhibitions "märklinMODERNE" (2018–2020) and "Turm und Tunnel" (2022–2025), and co-founded the Kirchenmanifest and Anti-Abriss-Allianz.

She serves on advisory bodies such as the Kuratorium der Deutschen Stiftung Denkmalschutz (since 2021), the AG Öffentlichkeitsarbeit des Deutschen Nationalkomitees für Denkmalschutz (since 2024), and the Deutschen Werkbunds Berlin (since 2025).
