Karim Nader is a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy. Starting Fall 2025, he will assume the role of Assistant Professor at Oakland University's Department of Philosophy. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on aesthetics, social and moral philosophy, and the ethics of technology, particularly exploring themes like gamification, virtual reality, AI perception, and algorithmic ethics. Nader has published extensively in journals such as Theoria, Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, and AI & Society.
His work examines how technology shapes human behavior and ethical considerations, including the moral implications of virtual actions, the gamification of dating apps, and public understanding of AI through entertainment media. He has presented peer-reviewed research at venues like the American Philosophical Association and the University of Glasgow. Awards include recognition from the American Society for Aesthetics and the Summer Institute in Technology Ethics.
Nader’s teaching experience includes courses on ethics, the philosophy of technology, and the philosophy of art. He currently leads initiatives at MIT, such as the Director of Experiential Ethics and research groups on topics like gamification and online trolls. His interdisciplinary approach bridges philosophy with contemporary technological and social challenges.
