Professor Karen Stolley is a Professor of Spanish at Emory University since 1992, affiliated with the History graduate program. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and a B.A. from Middlebury College. Her research focuses on eighteenth-century Spanish American literature, transatlantic studies, and the Enlightenment. She has held fellowships at Tucumán, Argentina (Rotary) and Bogotá, Colombia (Fulbright).

Her work bridges colonial Latin American studies with global Enlightenment scholarship. Recent research emphasizes recovering the Hispanic eighteenth century's literary contributions and analyzing mestizaje, epistolary forms, and colonial baroque aesthetics. She co-edited The Black Legend of Spain and its Atlantic Empire in the Eighteenth Century (2024) and contributed to major companions like The Cambridge History of Latin American Literature.
Her awards include the 2013 George P. Cuttino Mentoring Award and MLA Honorable Mention (2023). She serves on editorial boards for Dieciocho and SVEC, and holds board positions at Middlebury College and the Middlebury Institute for International Studies.
