Dr Karen Shoop is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering and Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London. She serves as Deputy Director of Education, Programme Director for Design, Innovation & Creative Engineering, and Creative Computing, and is the Education Lead for the Centre for Research in Engineering and Materials Education.

Her research focuses on Engineering Education, particularly Authentic Assessment in the Creative Industries and Reflection. She also contributes to Smart Camera Networks research, emphasizing self-reconfigurable systems and real-time optimization.
Recent work includes the 2014 publication on self-reconfigurable smart camera networks, which integrates computer science, autonomous systems, and network optimization. Her teaching spans modules like Studio Practice and Data and Design, blending technical and creative disciplines.
Dr Shoop holds office hours Mondays 11-12 in-person and Fridays 12-1 via Teams at Engineering 226, Mile End.
