Karen M. Wilson

Karen M. Wilson, M.D., M.P.H., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She also serves as Co-Director of the Clinical & Translational Science Institute. Her research focuses on secondhand tobacco and marijuana smoke exposure in children, smoking cessation interventions, and public health policy. Dr. Wilson has over 20 years of experience in tobacco-related research and has expanded her work to address emerging concerns around secondhand marijuana exposure, particularly with increased legalization. She has been funded by the National Cancer Institute and collaborates with policymakers to translate research into impactful health policies.

Her recent publications highlight studies on tobacco dependence, disparities in cannabis-related hospitalizations, and the host response to SARS-CoV-2 in children. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to policy initiatives addressing smoking cessation and smoke-free housing.
