Karen L Andes serves as Director of the Master of Public Health Program and Associate Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University's School of Public Health. She holds a PhD from Northwestern University (1994) and has over 30 years of expertise in public health research, training, and practice.
Her research focuses on adolescent health, health disparities in marginalized communities, and social determinants of health. She has conducted extensive work in Paraguay since 2005 and specializes in qualitative methodologies, including MAXQDA software training. Her research spans pediatric oncology, emergency preparedness, and global health issues like menstrual hygiene management.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on qualitative data analysis (PHP 2061), public health leadership (GPHP 2810), and interdisciplinary disability studies (PHP 2710). She developed a Coursera specialization in qualitative research methods for public health.
