Karen Jenkins is a Lecturer at the School of Architecture within the College of Design at Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a Bachelor of Design from the University of Florida, and dual Master’s degrees in Architecture and Engineering from Georgia Tech. A licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Structural Engineer (SE), Architect (AIA), and LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), she brings over 30 years of expertise in structural engineering and design.
- Experience spans corporate headquarters, mission-critical facilities, laboratories, educational buildings, and adaptive reuse projects
- Co-founder and Managing Partner of Shear Structural since 2018
- Advisory Board Member for Georgia Tech’s College of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Her research interests focus on integrating structural engineering with sustainable design practices, particularly in adaptive reuse of historic buildings. She advocates for gender diversity in engineering through mentorship and leadership roles.
Awarded ‘100 Influential Women in Engineering’ by Engineering Georgia Magazine in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023 for her professional contributions and advocacy.
