Karen Jansen

Karen Jansen is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIE) at NC State University’s Poole College of Business. She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Change and Strategic Human Resource Management from Texas A&M University, alongside a Master of Education from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Hartford. Before academia, she spent nine years as a systems engineer at IBM.

Her research focuses on dynamic processes in organizations, including temporal dynamics, person-environment fit, strategic change, and resilience in leadership. She has developed practical tools like Momentum Mapping and FitID to aid organizations in managing change and improving recruitment practices. Professor Jansen has advised military, manufacturing, finance, and healthcare organizations through executive education programs, including a 9-month transformational change leadership course and a 6-week NHS leadership program.

She serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Management and Academy of Management Review, co-editing a special issue on time in organizations. Her work bridges research and practice, emphasizing actionable insights for organizational challenges.
