Karen Hampanda is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Center for Global Health. She holds a PhD in Health and Behavioral Sciences (2016) and an MPH in International Health (2010), with a research focus on HIV, maternal/child health, and intimate partner violence in sub-Saharan Africa.

Her research examines behavioral determinants of maternal and sexual reproductive health, particularly in Zambia, Kenya, and Tanzania. Her work often employs mixed methods research and mHealth strategies.
Recent publications span topics like intimate partner violence, adherence to ART, male partner involvement, and PMTCT across sub-Saharan Africa. She has secured multiple NIH grants for projects addressing HIV prevention and reproductive health, including R33MH131281 and R00MH116735.
