Karen Dunmall is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria. She is a Research Scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, specializing in assessing aquatic ecosystem change in the Canadian Arctic. Her work emphasizes fish biodiversity, coastal ecosystems, and community-led approaches through projects like Arctic Salmon and Arctic Coast.
Education includes a BSc from Queen’s University, MSc from the University of Waterloo, PhD from the University of Manitoba, and a Liber Ero Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Victoria. She collaborates internationally, having conducted research in Norway, the U.S. (Washington, Oregon, Alaska), and northern Canada.
Her research interests focus on Arctic environmental change, fisheries science, and integrating Indigenous and community knowledge. She serves as an Associate Editor at the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences.
