Karen Deane

Karen Deane is a Researcher at the School of Molecular Sciences, University of Western Australia (UWA). Her work focuses on developing herbicides with novel mechanisms and medicinal chemistry targeting bacterial pathogens. She holds a PhD from The Australian National University (ANU) and prior industry experience with Epichem in drug discovery for neglected diseases.

• Research Interests: Synthetic organic chemistry, herbicide innovation, overcoming herbicide resistance, and small-molecule inhibitors for bacterial targets
• Grants: Co-Principal Investigator (CoPI) for 'Critical N2 supply for Mass Spectrometry to Support Biomedical Research' (2024–2025) and investigator in 'Core infrastructure: high-throughput nanodrop spectrophotometer' (2024)
