Karen Anderson is a Lecturer, Unit Coordinator, and Clinical Supervisor in the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University, specializing in the Undergraduate Counselling courses and the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy program. With over 30 years of experience, she serves as a Practitioner Scholar, bridging academic and clinical practice through her roles in private practice, training, and professional supervision. Her work focuses on psychosocial care in oncology, palliative care, and disability support, alongside clinical supervision for health professionals.
Karen holds the following qualifications:
- Master of Social Science in Counselling, Edith Cowan University, 1999.
- Graduate Diploma of Arts (Counselling), Edith Cowan University, 1990.
- Bachelor of Education, Edith Cowan University, 1985.
Her research interests encompass psychosocial care in oncology and palliative care, supporting families with disabled members, and addressing challenges faced by couples and families dealing with multiple diagnoses. She also explores reflective clinical supervision, the 'self' of the counsellor, and grief and bereavement, particularly in end-of-life contexts. Her work aims to improve mental health support in healthcare and educational settings.
She has received notable recognition including:
