Professor Karen Adams is a faculty member at Monash University, affiliated with the Gukwonderuk Indigenous Health Workforce. Her research focuses on health equity, Indigenous health policy, child development, and medical education reform. She leads and collaborates on projects addressing ADHD in Indigenous Australian children, digital education tools for youth, and nursing training protocols.
Research Interests: Adams’ work critically examines systemic inequities in healthcare and education through an Indigenous lens. She advocates for decolonization in medical curricula and equitable access to mental health resources for First Nations communities. Her projects integrate qualitative methodologies and policy analysis to drive systemic change.
Key Projects:
- Lead investigator in the Growing Indigenous Graduates Program (2016-2017)
- Chief Investigator in ADHD research (2020-2021)
- Co-developer of digital learning tools for primary school children (2020-2023)
- Contributor to international nurse competency assessments (2017-2019)
