Kara Sump serves as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the College of Nursing, George Fox University, joining the faculty in 2023 with over 20 years of clinical nursing experience spanning medical-surgical units, charge nurse roles, and nursing supervision at Willamette Valley Medical Center.
Her academic credentials include:
- Master of Science in Nursing Education from Duquesne University (2023)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Linfield University (2012)
- Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Nursing from Chemeketa Community College (2009)
Dr. Sump's professional focus integrates nursing education with clinical practice expertise, emphasizing pediatric mental health advocacy and foster care system improvement through community engagement. Her teaching methodology draws directly from extensive frontline healthcare experience to prepare students for real-world clinical challenges.
Active in community service, she served as registrar for McMinnville Playschool (2021-2023) and board president of the Oregon Family Advisory Council for three years, consistently channeling her nursing background into child welfare initiatives.
