معرفی
Kara Bernstein is a Lab Head with expertise in DNA repair mechanisms and cancer genetics. She earned her B.A. from Bryn Mawr College (2000) and Ph.D. from Yale University (2006), followed by postdoctoral training at Columbia University (2006-2011) under Rodney Rothstein. Her lab investigates homologous recombination, mutational analysis, and genomic instability in cancer.
- Education:
- B.A., Bryn Mawr College, 2000
- Ph.D., Yale University, 2006 (Advisor: Susan Baserga)
- Post-doctoral Fellow, Columbia University, 2006-2011 (Advisor: Rodney Rothstein)
Research Interests: The Bernstein Lab focuses on DNA repair pathways, particularly homologous recombination, and their role in cancer development. Current projects include analyzing tumor suppressor gene mutations, studying therapeutic resistance in ovarian cancer, and utilizing evolutionary genetics to identify novel DNA repair genes.
Publications: Key contributions include studies on RAD51C mutation clusters in cancer (2022), therapeutic resistance in CCNE1-amplified ovarian cancer (2022), and genome-wide DNA repair gene discovery (2019).
Advising & Trainees: Kara has mentored numerous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, including Mohd Azrin Jamalruddin (current graduate student), Tanis Dorwart (current graduate student), and former students like Hayley Rein (now at Baylor Genetics) and Sarah Hengel (now Assistant Professor at Tufts University).
Lab Members: The lab includes current postdoctoral fellows Anna Palovcak and Kristie Darrah, research technician Zoe Moosbrugger, and undergraduate researchers supported by programs like the Vagelos Scholars and CURF Summer Fellowship.
