Kanchana Gamage is a Senior Lecturer and Aviation Management Course Leader for Pilot Programmes at the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism, University of West London. She is a passionate educator and advocate for diversity in aviation, leading initiatives to support women, girls, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace.
Her teaching spans multiple programs including:
- BSc (Hons) Airline and Airport Management
- BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Commercial Pilot Licence
- BSc (Hons) Aviation Management with Private Pilot Licence
- Executive MSc Air Transport Operations and Management

- PgDip Senior Leader in Aviation Management
Kanchana's research and outreach efforts focus on the intersectionality of race and gender in education, particularly within aviation and STEM fields. She founded The Aviatrix Project in 2015, a long-term outreach initiative that provides mentoring, bursaries, flight experiences, and parental support to aspiring pilots from underrepresented groups. She works closely with primary, secondary, and higher education institutions across the UK to promote STEM and aviation education.
She previously held academic roles at Anglia Ruskin University as Senior Lecturer in Education and Programme Leader for the Primary PGCE, and at the University of Hertfordshire as Programme Leader for the MEd in Leading Teaching and Learning. Her professional experience also includes working with the Civil Aviation Authority on Skills Outreach Programmes in collaboration with the Department for Transport. Currently, she serves as an Aviation Ambassador for the Department for Transport, further amplifying her impact on national aviation education policy and inclusion efforts.
Kanchana combines her background in education leadership with her personal experience as a Private Pilot to drive systemic change in the aviation sector. Her work emphasizes sustainable talent pipelines, role modeling, and equitable access to aviation careers.
