Kana Jenkins serves as Professor and Librarian for East Asian Studies at the University of Maryland, affiliated with the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. She holds the dual role of Curator for the Prange Collection and East Asian Studies Librarian within the Special Collections and University Archives division.
Her professional expertise spans the languages, literatures, cultures, and history of China, Japan, and Korea, with specialized focus on the Allied Occupation of Japan period (1945-1952). As curator of the Gordon W. Prange Collection, one of the world's most comprehensive archives on the Occupation era, she provides critical research support and develops course-integrated instruction for university classes studying this historical period.
Jenkins' educational background includes a BA in English, MA in History, and MA in Library and Information Science (MLIS), which combines humanities scholarship with professional library training. Her work bridges academic research and archival resources, supporting multidisciplinary scholarship across East Asian studies.
She maintains an active professional presence through collection development, research consultation, and instructional support from her office at 4200A Hornbake Library, where she serves as a vital resource for students and faculty engaged in East Asian research.
