Kamran Matin is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the School of Global Studies, University of Sussex, where he has been since 2007. He earned his DPhil and MSc from the University of Sussex and a BA in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia.

His research focuses on the international dimension of socio-political transformation, particularly in Iranian and Kurdish contexts, using uneven and combined development as a theoretical framework. He explores intersections of Marxist IR, historical sociology, postcolonial theory, and revolutionary ideologies.
His 15 most recent publications engage with themes like Iranian modernity, Kurdish stateless politics, and anti-capitalist revolutions. These works span international relations theory, historical sociology, and critical Middle East studies.
Scientific awards include a 2017 Fellowship as Research Associate at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. He supervises PhD research on topics such as the Rojava Revolution and Syrian Uprising.
He leads the ESRC-funded project 'Negotiating Queer Identities Following Forced Migration' (2022–2025), analyzing Iranian queer refugee experiences in Turkey, the UK, and Canada.
