Kamal Youcef-Toumi is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has served since 1985. He directs the MIT Mechatronics Research Laboratory and holds leadership roles including co-director of the Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy (MIT/KFUPM) and co-director of the Center of Complex Engineering Systems (KACST/MIT).
His research spans Mechatronics, Robotics, and Control Systems with emphasis on innovation and technology transfer. Professor Youcef-Toumi has driven international collaborations with Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and UAE institutions, focusing on real-world applications like electrohydraulic actuators, industrial robot operation, and virtual rehabilitation systems.
He received the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator award and maintains senior life membership in IEEE alongside ASME and International Association of Advanced Materials affiliations.
Professor Youcef-Toumi has supervised industry projects for Boeing, Amazon, and General Electric through MIT's Leaders for Global Operations program. His extensive committee service includes NSF panels, EU Network of Excellence reviews, and Qatar Foundation Research Forum leadership.
