معرفی
Kamal D. Moudgil is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine. Over two decades, he has led research in autoimmunity and immune regulation using rat models of rheumatoid arthritis (adjuvant arthritis) and multiple sclerosis (EAE).
- Focus on cellular and molecular pathways in autoimmunity
- Development of targeted drug delivery systems
- Investigation of natural products and biomarkers (e.g., miRNAs)
His work explores immune cell interactions, including T cells, B cells, macrophages, and stromal cells like fibroblasts and osteoclasts. Funded by NIH (R01, P01, R21, R03), VA Merit, Arthritis Foundation, and Rheumatology Research Foundation.
Research trends from his publications highlight:
- Natural products (celastrol, pristimerin) for autoimmune therapy
- Peptide-guided drug delivery systems
- Microbiome-derived metabolites in immune modulation
- Role of heat-shock proteins in pathogenesis and tolerance
- Th17/Treg balance and cytokine networks in disease
