Professor Kam Leung holds academic positions in Biology, the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Mining & Exploration, and Biotechnology at Lakehead University. His research focuses on environmental microbiology, microbial physiology, genetic regulation in microorganisms, and bioremediation. He teaches courses such as Biology 2711 (Biology of Microorganisms), Biology 3711 (Pathogenic Bacteriology), and Biology 4711 (Applied and Environmental Microbiology).
Education:
- Honors BSc, University of Hong Kong
- MSc, Oregon State University
- PhD, Oregon State University
Research Interests: Leung investigates microbial survival mechanisms in environmental contexts, biodegradation of pollutants, and molecular detection techniques. His work bridges environmental science and biotechnology, with applications in biosensor development and soil remediation.
Publications: Recent work explores UV light effects on bacteria, biofilm-based biosensors, and bacterial genotyping in water systems. These studies highlight interdisciplinary approaches to microbial challenges in environmental and clinical settings.
Labs/Teams: Maintains a research lab (CB3009) and collaborates with institutions globally. His group develops innovative solutions for bioremediation and microbial ecology.
