Dr Kaline de Mello is a Research Fellow at the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL), affiliated with Charles Darwin University's Faculty of Science and Technology. She holds a PhD in Biosystems Engineering from the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and the University of Massachusetts (USA), with postdoctoral experience at multiple institutions including the University of Queensland.
- Education: PhD in Biosystems Engineering (2017), Master's in Environmental Science (2012).
Her research focuses on wetland ecology, remote sensing, and land use impacts on freshwater ecosystems. She specializes in:
- Geospatial analysis for wetland mapping
- Hydrological connectivity in tropical savannas
- Ecosystem services and conservation planning
- Indigenous knowledge integration in environmental management
Recent work includes combining Google Earth Engine and field data to track long-term wetland changes in northern Australia. She actively supervises HDR students and collaborates with Indigenous ranger groups and government agencies on applied conservation projects.
