Kaj Ahlsved is a Researcher in Musicology at Åbo Akademi University, specializing in the intersection of music, sports, and cultural activism. He holds a doctoral degree from Åbo Akademi (2017) and has served as a Visiting Researcher at Umeå University's Department of Cultural and Media Studies (2021–2023). His research focuses on music in sports contexts, historical studies of Swedish and Finnish sports music cultures, and activist music research promoting social justice. He co-founded the Research Association Suoni rf in 2017 and leads a sub-project examining sports clubs' singing/music culture from an equality perspective (1875–1939).
Awarded the Royal Gustav Adolf Academy's Bernadottestipendium (2021) and 'Profet i egen stad nr 35' (2022), Ahlsved's work contributes to UN SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice). His research spans over 160 publications, including peer-reviewed articles on sports soundscapes, ethnomusicology, and music activism. He actively engages in public outreach through podcasts, documentaries, and academic conferences, emphasizing the societal role of music.
