Kaija E. Schilde is an Associate Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University, and a GFPS Member.

Professor Schilde specializes in the political economy of security and transatlantic security, with core research areas spanning European Union institutions, European Foreign and Security Policy, Comparative Politics, Defense Acquisition and Technology, Bureaucracy and Interest Groups, and Computational Modeling and Simulation. Her work critically examines the historical institutionalism of security organizations through analysis of military spending dynamics, defense innovation-capability linkages, defense reform processes, force transformation mechanisms, defense protectionism politics, and international diffusion of security practices.
She authored The Political Economy of European Security (Cambridge University Press, 2017), investigating EU-state-society relations in defense institutions, industries, and markets. Her research appears in the Journal of Common Market Studies, European Security, and Journal of Peace Research, demonstrating consistent focus on empirical security policy analysis.
