K. (Kai) Epstude is an Associate Professor with ius promovendi at the Department of Social Psychology within the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen. He holds a Dr. phil. from the University of Würzburg (2005) and has held academic positions since 2005, including postdoctoral roles at the University of Illinois (2006–2008) and visiting scholarships at Northwestern University and the Knowledge Media Research Center (2011, 2014).

Research Interests: Epstude focuses on counterfactual thinking, regret, nostalgia, and social judgment. Recent projects include studying emotion regulation in feedback contexts and the psychological dynamics of migration adaptation.
