Kaelin Groom is an Instructor at Arizona State University's School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. He specializes in heritage conservation, cultural resource management, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human-landscape interactions. His research focuses on rock art preservation, entomogeomorphology, and the impacts of tourism on cultural and natural heritage sites.
Key projects include the Al-Hisma Rock Art Rangers Initiative in Jordan's Wadi Rum Protected Area, supported by USAID, and Fulbright-funded work at Petra investigating tourism-induced landscape changes. He has developed the Rock Art Stability Index (RASI), a non-invasive assessment tool for cultural heritage preservation.
Teaching focuses on environmental geography, natural resource management, and Middle Eastern geographies. Courses include GPH 210 Society and Environment and GCU 328 Geography of the Middle East/North Africa.
