Kaarel Soots

Kaarel Soots is a Senior Lecturer at the Chair of Biosystems Engineering within the Institute of Forestry and Engineering at Estonian University of Life Sciences. He holds a Doctor's Degree (2018) in Post-harvest processing technology for cultivated berries and a Master's Degree (2009, cum laude) in Engineering. His academic career began in 2010, progressing through roles including Project Manager, Junior Research Fellow, Research Fellow, and Lecturer before assuming his current position.

Research Focus: Dr. Soots specializes in Industrial Engineering and Management with emphasis on Agricultural Engineering, Materials Science, and Precision Agriculture. His work spans post-harvest technologies, sustainable materials development (biodegradable tableware), nanotechnology applications, and agricultural automation systems. Recent publications demonstrate a shift toward sustainable materials and nanotechnology alongside his foundational work in berry processing mechanization.

Laboratory & Technical Expertise: Dr. Soots utilizes advanced facilities including computer tomography (YXLON FF35), materials testing systems (Instron), and precision measurement equipment. He leads projects on precision fertilization technology and textile upcycling using fungi.
