Kaan Yildiz is an Assistant Professor at Istanbul Technical University's Aviation Institute. His research focuses on advanced materials and structural engineering, including carbon nanotubes, polyurethane composites, auxetic structures, and metamaterials. He leads projects funded by BAP and TUBITAK, investigating topics such as energy absorption in auxetic materials, viscoelastic properties in foams, and vibration damping in space applications. Yildiz has authored over 20 publications since 2014, with recent work emphasizing wearable sensor geometries, foam-reinforced auxetic systems, and dynamic mechanical analyses.
His research interests span materials science, mechanical engineering, and aerospace applications. Key projects include improving energy absorption capabilities of auxetic structures via foam casting methods and exploring viscoelastic materials for tensegrity structures used in space. Collaborative work includes studies on acoustic emission-based damage detection in composite materials and synergistic effects of geometric parameters in re-entrant auxetic systems.
