Commander K.R. Reinhold serves as a National Security Affairs Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution while maintaining an active-duty role as a U.S. Coast Guard Commander. With 21 years of military service, he specializes as an MH-65E Dolphin helicopter pilot conducting search-and-rescue, counternarcotics, and airspace intercept operations across the Western Hemisphere.
His academic foundation includes dual bachelor's degrees in Ecology and Spanish from the University of Arizona and a Master of Public Policy earned at Princeton University in 2015. Operational expertise stems from assignments in Puerto Rico, South Florida, and New Jersey, including leadership as Chief of Operations for Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) in Jacksonville, Florida.
Research focuses on institutional resilience and national security policy, informed by frontline experience in maritime security. His work addresses challenges in domestic tranquility and governmental efficacy, as reflected in contributions like Revitalizing American Institutions and Insure Domestic Tranquility. As a military aviator with nearly 3,000 flight hours, he holds commercial licenses for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft while serving in staff roles including Press Assistant to the 26th Coast Guard Commandant and Deputy Liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives.
