K. Stephen Prince is an Associate Professor of History at the University of South Florida's College of Arts and Sciences. He specializes in 19th–20th century U.S. history with a focus on southern culture, society, and politics. His research critically examines race, identity, and historical memory during Reconstruction and the Jim Crow era. Prince holds a Ph.D. from Yale University (2010) and has authored major works such as Stories of the South: Race and the Reconstruction of Southern Identity, 1865–1915 and Radical Reconstruction: A Brief History with Documents.
His scholarly contributions include funded research projects on the New Orleans race riot of 1900 and the intellectual history of white supremacy. Prince has received prestigious awards like the George Washington Egleston Historical Prize (2010) and the USF Ambassadors Apple Polishing Award (2013) for teaching. He serves on academic committees including the University of South Florida College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Council and the Florida Historical Marker Council.
Prince’s publications explore themes of historical memory, racial democracy, and cultural resistance.
