Jürgen Sprekels

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Sprekels is a retired Full Professor of Applied Analysis at the Institute of Mathematics, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and former Director of the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS). His career includes roles such as Spokesman of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (2007-2009) and Coordinator of the International Mathematical Sciences Institutes (IMSI, 2006-2010).

He holds a PhD (1975) and Habilitation (1977) from Universität Hamburg, with research focused on phase transitions, Cahn-Hilliard equations, optimal control of PDEs, and mathematical modeling of tumor growth. His work bridges applied mathematics, materials science, and biomedical engineering.
