Jürgen Mackert is Professor of General Sociology at the Faculty of Human Sciences, University of Potsdam, where he holds a chaired professorship and leads the research and teaching profile in sociological theory and analysis. He is actively involved in supervision, research projects, and academic leadership.
Research Interests: His work spans classical and contemporary social theory, with a focus on social closure, violence, citizenship, authoritarianism, and the sociological critique of neoliberal capitalism. He emphasizes theoretical and methodological rigor, integrating hermeneutic understanding with explanatory sociology.
The recent publications and ongoing projects, such as the International Research Group on Authoritarianism and Counter-Strategies, reflect a strong engagement with global sociopolitical challenges, including power, domination, inequality, and democratic erosion. His research combines field theory, praxeology, and relational sociology to analyze modern social phenomena.
Supervision and Grants: He supervises a cohort of doctoral students and leads third-party funded projects, including the DFG-funded Political Sociology of Transnational Fields network and the Centre for Citizenship. Current funding supports research on authoritarianism and global protest.
