Jürgen Baumert

Jürgen Baumert is a Professor of Education at Humboldt University and Freie Universität Berlin, and Director Emeritus of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. He previously served as Vice President of the Max Planck Society (2006–2008) and Managing Director of the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (1992–1996). His research focuses on learning and instruction, teacher expertise, large-scale international assessments (e.g., TIMSS and PISA), educational system development, and cognitive/motivational development in children and adolescents. He leads the COACTIV longitudinal program investigating teacher professional knowledge and its impact on student learning.
