Jørgen Frøkiær is the Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and holds the rank of Clinical Professor in Nuclear Medicine and PET. He graduated as a doctor in 1986 and became a specialist in clinical physiology and nuclear medicine in 1998. His research focuses on renal physiology, water/salt metabolism, and radiopharmaceutical development for diagnostics/treatment. He has extensive experience in research management and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Independent Research Fund Denmark and Chair of the Novo Nordisk Prize Committee.
Academic affiliations include leadership roles in Aarhus University's Department of Clinical Medicine, with responsibilities spanning personnel management, financial oversight, and fostering collaboration with healthcare partners like Region Midtjylland. His research has produced over 425 publications, emphasizing PET imaging in prostate cancer, kidney diseases, and cardiac perfusion. Key projects include rubidium-82 PET studies for tumor perfusion assessment and chronic kidney disease diagnostics.
Notable achievements include the 2018 SEB Pensions Award. He actively participates in academic activities, including lectures on urogenital radiology and EU policy meetings. His work bridges clinical practice, research innovation, and institutional leadership in Denmark's healthcare sector.
