Prof. Dr. Jörg Prietzel is an Associate Professor and Chair of Soil Science at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), within the TUM School of Life Sciences. His research focuses on soil biogeochemistry, particularly the impacts of human activities and climate change on forest soils, as well as advanced analytical techniques like synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy. He holds a doctorate from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and has been at TUM since 2000.
Education: Studied Geography/Hydrology at Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (1984–1990) and Soil Science at the Norwegian Agricultural University. Completed habilitation in Soil Science at LMU Munich (1999).
Research interests include forest soil chemistry, phosphorus and calcium speciation, climate change effects on alpine soils, and the application of synchrotron-based methods. He leads the Chair of Soil Science, managing facilities like nano secondary ion mass spectrometry (NanoSIMS) and synchrotron spectromicroscopy.
Key publications address long-term forest ecosystem monitoring, soil organic matter dynamics, and phosphorus cycling. His work bridges field studies and cutting-edge analytical techniques to address global environmental challenges.
