Jörg Mainka is Professor for Analysis of Contemporary Music and Music Theory at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music Berlin, serving as Vice-Rector from 2008-2011 and again since 2024. Previously, he lectured in music theory at the University of Karlsruhe and State University of Music Karlsruhe (1988-1999).
His education includes organ studies with Peter Schumann at Heidelberg's Church Music Institute and formal training at State University of Music Karlsruhe (1982-1989) under HJ Haarbeck, E.-W. Velte, and Mathias Spahlinger.
Research focuses on contemporary music analysis and theory, evidenced by compositions like 'Tutti' (Donaueschinger Musiktage 2000) and 'Voyeur' (Stuttgart 2004). He pioneered live electronics work at Karlsruhe's Center for Art and Media (1992-1994) and co-founded the New Composers Society Karlsruhe.

As an institutional leader, he served on Akademie Schloss Solitude's Board of Trustees (2005-2010) and directed Stuttgart State Opera's 'Forum Neues Musiktheater' (2004). His collaborative work spans music theatre innovation and new music advocacy.
