Jérôme LAGEISTE is a Lecturer in Geography (23rd section) at the Faculty of History Geography Heritage, University of Artois. His academic career spans over two decades since completing his doctorate at the University of Paris IV Sorbonne in 1994 under Professor Paul CLAVAL.
Dr. LAGEISTE's research focuses on tourism geography through the prism of spatial identity, territory and territoriality, examining mental representations and existential (sensory, emotional) relationships with space. His work positions the individual at the center of spatial theories, with particular attention to coastal and nautical tourism contexts.
His recent publications reveal a growing interest in spatial discontinuities, interspatialities of the internet, and geographical approaches to the body. The research demonstrates consistent engagement with geopolitical dimensions of tourism, particularly regarding border regions like Cyprus and Patagonia, while maintaining a strong methodological focus on how individuals experience and construct spatial meaning.
Dr. LAGEISTE has coordinated multiple academic projects including 'Les interspatialités d'Internet' (2015), 'Corps/Hétérotopies' (2015), and 'Approche Multidimensionnelle des Discontinuités' (2014). He served as scientific coordinator for research seminars at laboratory EA2468 from 2012-2014 and has organized numerous international conferences, including the BRIT XIV international colloquium in 2014 where he moderated a session on 'The border, tourist object.'
