Jérôme Faure is a Research Director at CNRS and a lecturer at École Polytechnique, leading a research group at the Applied Optics Unit (LOA) of ENSTA Paris. He obtained his PhD in Physics from École Polytechnique in 2001 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Berkeley before joining LOA in 2003.
His research focuses on laser-plasma accelerators, ultrafast phenomena, nonlinear optics, and ultrashort laser technology. Notable achievements include pioneering laser-plasma acceleration techniques, such as producing quasi-monoenergetic electron beams (2004) and demonstrating controlled plasma accelerator injection (2006). His current work explores high-repetition-rate electron sources and their applications in condensed matter physics.
Key honors include the 2007 Fresnel Prize, 2008 Research Prize (shared), and a 2012 ERC Starting Grant. His research contributes to advancing ultrafast imaging, medical applications, and plasma-based technologies.
Collaborations involve interdisciplinary projects at LOA, leveraging CNRS and ENSTA Paris resources. He advises on grants and oversees experimental platforms for laser-plasma physics.
