Dr. Justyna Stypińska is a Research Fellow at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB), affiliated with the Research Group Globalization, Work, and Production. Her work bridges sociology and digital ethics, focusing on algorithmic discrimination, ageism in AI technologies, and socio-economic inequalities in late capitalism.
- PhD in Sociology, Jagiellonian University (2012)
- MSc in Sociology (Jagiellonian University, 2006)
- Evans School of Public Affairs, University of Washington (2008)
Her research explores how AI systems perpetuate age-based exclusion, particularly for aging populations in Europe, through projects like "AI Ageism: New Forms of Age Discrimination in the Era of Algorithms" funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. Recent work includes analyzing Silicon Valley's ideologies of "older" workers and investigating AI's impact on healthcare equity for seniors.
She has authored over 15 publications since 2025, including interdisciplinary studies on digital ageism, generative AI biases, and policy analysis of aging populations in digital societies. Scientific awards include the Volkswagen Foundation grant, DFG Project leadership, and research fellowships at the Weizenbaum Institute and European New School of Digital Studies.
Stypińska's scholarly output spans theoretical frameworks for ageism in technology, empirical studies on labor market discrimination, and critical analyses of senior entrepreneurship as a driver for social innovation. She actively contributes to debates on digital ethics, socio-technical systems, and European anti-discrimination legislation.
