Justine Poon is a Lecturer in Law and Society at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), affiliated with the School of Law and Society. She is a critical legal theory scholar with a focus on law and humanities, refugee law, and interdisciplinary legal research. Her PhD at the Australian National University (ANU) explores how language, images, and storytelling illuminate legal logic. Poon has held visiting fellowships at institutions including the Refugee Law Initiative (University of London) and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Legal Studies (University of Lucerne). She has taught at the ANU and collaborated internationally through seminars and creative projects like a podcast on Law, Art, and Politics. Her research engages with refugee law’s discursive frameworks and sovereignty narratives, often critiquing legal metaphors like 'the boat' and 'the queue.' Poon’s creative outputs include exhibitions and written pieces aimed at broadening legal discourse beyond academia.
Education: LLB (1st Hons) and BA (MAP) from UTS. Awards include multiple visiting fellowships and grants for interdisciplinary legal research. Her work bridges law with cultural, philosophical, and artistic contexts to challenge traditional legal narratives.
